| Few travelers associate the classic alpine landscape of the Engadine Valley, home to St. Moritz, in Switzerland with the Mediterranean warmth and color of Italy, which lies just 20 miles to the south. This trip connects both of these unique areas, and also ventures into the little known Chiavenna valley. This valley rises slowly at first, and then spectacularly to the Maloja pass, which opens onto the high alpine plateau of the Engadine.
On this trip, unpack just once for 5 nights at the magnificent five-star Castle Hotel Waldhaus in Sils-Maria where the Keinberger family has been pampering guests since 1907. Just 8 miles from St. Moritz, this village lies between deep blue lakes, framed by meadows, forests and snowcapped peaks. Our day's excursion into northern Italy includes local artisan demonstrations of stone cutting and linen production with a crotto lunch of home cured meats and cheeses. A horse drawn carriage journey into the lovely Fex Valley is complemented by a guided walk to the Corvatch Glacier with lunch at the " top of the world " and a view that extends over hundreds of mountain peaks. |
